Teaching & Cultivating a Love of Reading 4

Thank you for joining me for this little series! I'm going to wrap it up by sharing some of the favorite books for read aloud and teaching reading that a few of my Instagram friends have shared with me for you. Wasn't that so nice?

Terri of @woodsermom Doesn't really use curriculum to teach reading. They start with vowels, then consonants, then blends followed by the 70 phonograms. Her all time favorite book that she's read over and over again to the kids is Miss Fannie's Hat. She says the kids love watching her cry while reading aloud.

Jennifer of @jenniferpepito loves Spell To Write and Read for teaching reading, and favorite read alouds are The Jungle Calls and Little House on the Prairie.

Gaye of @gkeynana had a hard time narrowing down so here is her favorite read aloud list. Picture books: Once There Were Giants, by Waddell and Dale, All The Places To Love by Maclachlan. Chapter book favorites: The Saturdays by Enright, Rufus Red Tail by Garrett, King Oberon's Forest by VanStockum.

Gaye's daughter, Raimie of @joyfinderspath is using Teach Your Child To Read In 100 Easy Lessons, and favorite read alouds are The Rats of Nymh, Call of the Wild, and everything by Thorton W. Burgess.

Jennifer of @jennifernaraki uses Learning to Read set + flash cards by Christian Light publications. Favorite younger years read alouds are: The Complete Tales of Beatrix Potter, Miss Rumphius by Cooney, Roxaboxen by Mclerran and B is for Bear A Natural Alphabet by Viano.

Heidi of @kinderfarmhomeschool Loves the Flicka, Ricka and Dicka books by Mag Lindman.

I really hope you've found these posts helpful in some way. Let me know! I always love to hear from you.

Happy reading!
